As the renowned philosopher Francis Bacon has drawn the attention that reading makes a man wise, reading is vitally important for the success of a student. The chief question is how one can develop a smart and effective reading skills. Reading is a seven parts process made up of the following steps.
Indeed reading is not just getting information but it is meant to comprehend,to understand,to recall, to apply and to communicate further.
Following are some basic manners used to enhance one's reading abilities. Mind mapping is a technique in which by using the basic knowledge of mental functioning,one can increase one's mental capabilities many times. In this technique,one can use the full range of Brain's power , placing an image in the center of the page, in order to facilitate memorization and the creative generation of ideas.Using this approach one can prepare speeches in minutes rather than days, problems can be solved both more extensively and more fastly.
To create dramatic, colorful , sensual and most importantantly, unforgettable images in your mind to remember the seven color of rainbow. We associate it with word "vibgyor" which is consisted of the initial alphabet of the seven colors.
Scanning is a process in which one looks for particular information.The application of this technique is very simple as one makes before hand that one knows the basic layout of the material,which is scanning.
Skimming is a process in which one looks for a general overview. Skimming can be defined as the process in which one's eye covers certain preselected sections of the material in order to gain a general overview of that material. The basic aim of skimming is to provide a fundamental architecture on which the bricks mortar can be placed.
While doing purposeful reading, the concentration of the reader is important. The many reasons for lack of concentration while reading include vocabulary difficulties, conceptual difficulty of the material, inappropriate reading speed, incorrect mindset,poor organization,lack of interest and lack of motivation.
However next are the ways by which one can expand one's reading speed and comprehension by creating the right external conditions. These right external conditions include placement and intensity of light, availability of material , a comfortable chair and support of desk, a good posture and peaceful environment.These are also some internal interferences and one can avoid from these by focusing on good timing, avoiding mental discomfort.
In the last , I just wanted to say that use your brain for effective reading not just your eyes as one can learn nothing without central focus or the attention.
