Water Boy is a short story in which the writer is promoting love, patience and goodness. Abigail states that there was a little boy named Tom. He was a chimney sweeper. He was a very happy and lively boy. His boss Mr. Grimes was a strict man who treated him poorly. If Tome made too much mess while cleaning chimneys, Mr. Grimes would shout at him loudly.

One day, Tom was cleaning the chimneys of a big mansion and during his cleaning, Tom fell into a room where he saw his reflection in a mirror. Tom was completely covered in black soot. The room was clean and well decorated. So, after seeing his reflection in the mirror, he felt embarrassed. He heard the loud and bashing voice of Mr. Grimes. Tom ran fast towards the steam and saw his black reflection in the water.

Tom started crying but he saw one elegant mother fish who guided him to be kind. One day Mr. Grimes reached at the stream and slipped into the water but the mother fish asked tom to help Mr. Grimes. Tome helped Mr. Grimes happily because he was a nice boy inwardly.

Kindness is the main theme of this story. Helping hand and helping heart are always beautiful. Love the hateful person and it will make you loveable and kind hearted.

The characters in this story are symbols of different attributes. Tom is the symbol of love, patience and sympathy. Mr. Grimes is the symbol of anger, impatience and cruelty. And in this story, the main character, a beautiful splendid and glittering mother fish is the symbol of kindness and goodness. This sparkling fish leads tom towards love, light and sympathy. She teaches him kindness and tells him how to control personal grudges. Water also represents life. Beauty of the story is that writer is discussing love, hate, kindness, anger and sympathy in one single content.
