Purpose: The Sandpaper Numbers are a foundational Montessori mathematics material that introduce children to the numerals 0 to 9. The direct purpose of the Sandpaper Numbers is to teach children the symbols that represent the quantity of each number.This activity also helps build strong memories of the symbols that will come in handy when learning to write them on paper! After mastering the Sandpaper Numbers, a child can start learning to link a number's symbol to the physical quantities it represents.

Purpose: It is used for counting and performing mathematical operations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. The abacus is traditionally made with a frame that holds wires or rods on which movable beads are placed. The beads stand for digits and they are moved as calculations are performed.
