WHY STUDENTS MUST WEAR SCHOOL UNIFORMS

We live in a world where the way we look and the way we dress ourselves determines our social standing and becomes the basis for acceptance in society. Glamorous clothes and fashion are idolized and people often try to follow such affluent things to conform to the society. It is most often seen in modern schools where such clothes are common, and students are judged by their physical appearance.

Here we see some of the reasons of why uniforms must be used in place of those clothes :

1. Equality

One of the most important reason for students to wear uniforms, is to give a sense of equality. In today’s world of fashion trends and brands, clothing has become a status symbol for children in schools. Uniforms negate that and instills a sense of oneness amongst them. In that way, it does not give a chance for bullies from richer backgrounds to discriminate and pick on the poor ones with regards to their clothing and as a result, they do not feel alienated .

2. Focus on Learning:

By wearinge uniforms, students will no longer feel insecure about the way they look, their social status and will no longer have a low self-esteem. Thus they will not have the pressure to conform to the society in terms of their peers and will be able to put their energies on to learning and study.

A common dress code enables a student to express and define himself be it in arts, sports, music, academics irrespective of the students’ background and will no longer use fashion as a means of defining their creativity.

3. Time Saving:

It is common to see kids nowadays having a wardrobe overflowing with clothes. As a result, kids would spend inordinate amounts of time deciding the perfect outfit to wear to school that day. This consumes a lot of time. With uniforms, you would know exactly what to wear, you would not be obsessed with wearing the ‘perfect’ outfit, can avoid an argument with your parent over you getting late to school and will overall save a lot of time.

4. Discipline:

It is when you are a student that you learn the basic tenets of discipline and control that you take forward to your older age. Wearing a uniform reduces absenteeism, promotes school attendance, pay attention to their studies and instills a lot of discipline, focus and good behaviour. Most importantly, it induces presentation skills, which help them talk with confidence and gives a sense of motivation and purpose.

5. Promoting School Spirit:

Wearing a uniform generates a sense of belonging, pride and loyalty towards the school, encourages the attitude of working in a team and that is reflected when they have to represent their school at inter-school events, clubs, sports and competitions.

6. Economical:

Spending large amounts of money on trendy jeans and other designer clothes is expensive for the parent. School uniforms are not very expensive and you can buy multiple sets for a much lesser price. As a result they will not have to waste their time on deciding the right choice of clothes and will focus more on going to school.

After the reasons mentioned above school has also opted certain uniform for its pupils and insist parents to get 100% compliance from their children in the context of UNIFORM wearing
